I collected these bits of paper and cardboard,
from the backs of antique "Tramp Art" frames. It seemed a waste to throw those beautifully aged pieces of paper into the trash.

During the 5 years I spent working with photographer Lee Crum, he collected hundreds of Tramp Art frames. We would remove the images contained within each frame and replace them with Lee's photographs. We both commented often about the people we imagined creating or acquiring the frames.

What was the importance of the image each contained? What was the connection between the creator, the collector, and the image? What stories did they hold? What stories could they evoke? What was our place in that story?
